A friend of mine was in a car accident the other day. Two minutes later he got a phone call from his identical twin. “Something told me to call you.”
I’ve seen this happen a lot with them over the years. But it gets even stranger. The next day, both of them were sore from the accident. In the same places.
I’ve also seen them both suffer from a hangover when only one of them has been out drinking, even if the innocent one didn’t know the other had been partying. The phone call in that situation was usually along the lines of “Dammit, what did you DO last night? I feel horrible.”
I’ve seen them both come down with the same cold even though they haven’t been in physical contact.
I also used to work in an agency that coordinated guided tours of area attractions in Orlando, Florida. This was prior to the advent of cell phones, so the tour guides would be required to check in periodically for any changes in plans. Even so, they’d always assign this one particular tour guide to projects with a high potential for change.
One time I asked why, and my boss said, “Watch this.” He sat back and casually said, “I need Jackie to call me.” Within three minutes, the phone rang and she said, “What now?” And apparently that worked every single time.
I also have a dear friend who lives 2000 miles away and can generally sense when things are not going well with me, another who gets flashes of significant numbers such as padlock combinations and alarm codes, and I know another woman who will get an accurate image of the position the body will be found in whenever she hears about a missing child on the news. That last one must be a very upsetting talent to have.
There’s just no way to explain these types of things, but for the most part I enjoy the fact that I have occasionally gotten to bear witness to them.
