That Thing You Do

We still talk. All the time.

“I love that thing you do.”

“What thing?”

“You know. The thing. Where you say something funny and I laugh and that makes you laugh, and then you say, ‘Silly girl,’ as if I were the funny one.”

“Well, I love that you’re so hard core.”

“What does that mean?”

“I don’t know. You’re just hard core.”

“But then there’s that other thing you do, where you get so worked up about politics that you wind up shouting at me as if I were to blame. I’m not going to miss that. But I’d gladly take the bad things back if it meant I could have the good things back too.”

“Silly girl.”
