It really is. I’m not making this up. You can Google it.
I think this is probably one of the most useful holidays on earth. If you’ve ever grown zucchini, you know how quickly you can be overwhelmed by your success in this venture. And this is about the time of year when you’ll be shedding tears of despair over your bounty.
Let’s face it. You only want so much zucchini. It’s great and all, but a steady diet of it rapidly grows old.
It’s a fair certainty that your neighbor feels the same way. That’s why the “sneak” portion of this holiday is so massively critical. If you knock on their door with a basket of zucchini, you’ll most likely hear a horrified shriek and have the door slammed in your face. (They probably have a back yard full of it themselves.)
So to unload this prolific vegetable, you will have to employ a certain amount of stealth. Just be advised that if you live in a state with Stand Your Ground laws, you may be taking your life into your own hands. But it will be worth it, so as not to waste all that perfectly good zucchini.
If you have any good zucchini recipes, post them (or links to them) below! Please. I’m begging you.

LOL. Like a good neighbor, zucchini is there. Many years ago two brothers that lived next to each other passed away within two days of each other. Folks were just beginning to plant their gardens. Their neighbor (whom never had a garden) planted 6 rows of zucchini for each neighbor, to help them out.
instead of 6×10 foot rows, he planted 6×100 foot rows. Everyone so appreciated the gesture that they did not explain that zucchini grows like rocks. Come harvest time, he jumped in to help again.
For a thirty mile area every church awoke Sunday morning to laundry baskets full of zucchini. Road side vendors were amazed to find a bounty on their veggi market site. When you know of anyone that can use what you can’t, Pass it on. And save a lot of Thank You and apologies by clues to your neighbor about gardening.
I bet they never made THAT mistake again. 🙂
This is true. My Hubby. Several years later, he bought 24
chickens and one rooster. So for Easter the kids and I colored eggs and put them in mailboxes around the neighborhood, and also at the church. He now knows that one chicken per person is more than enough.
That sounds like it was fun, though, coloring the eggs. 🙂
Sorry… this sounds too much like a euphemism for something dirty…
Clearly you’re not a vegetarian.
clearly
Zucchini is considered an exotic vegetable in India and so it’s only something I’ve eaten in Europe. I once had a Zucchini lasagne that was SOOOO good. My friend just replaced the pasta sheets with thinly sliced Zucchini. YUM!
Oooh, that DOES sound good. And a lot more healthy. I may have to try that.
