Victoria, Canada, is only a few hours drive from my house. It blows my mind that a gorgeous city in another country is so readily accessible. We spent a week there. It will generate quite a few blog posts. But today I wanted to tell you about The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
This is a very significant Canadian gallery. It houses work by artists from British Columbia as well as art from all around the Pacific Rim, and in fact has one of the best collections of Asian art in the world. It showcases contemporary art, which is my favorite.
This gallery has been going strong since 1951. At first, of course, it was much smaller, and only occupied the Victorian house (built in 1889) that now houses the gift shop, an art rental and sales venue, and administrative offices. Since then, 7 modern galleries have extended out from the house, and the entire facility holds 24,000 works of art.

I really enjoyed exploring AGGV’s collection, and we took photos with you in mind, dear reader. I wish their website had a virtual tour element like some other galleries do, but alas, it does not. I hope the photos below will at least inspire those who are able to travel to Victoria to make room in their itinerary to visit this wonderful place.
