Dear Reader, Sometimes I encounter people who are so much more eloquent than I am that I feel the need to share their thoughts with you, particularly when it’s a subject that I care deeply about. I hope you’ll indulge me this once, because this matters. It really does.
If violent habits take hold in the teenage years, and they surround themselves with peers who validate such behavior, and it goes unchecked, then is it any surprise that they grow up to become a violent men?
And here is the kind of “boys will be boys” trend that teaches kids that it’s okay to treat women like garbage in the first place. Fair warning. YourBestieMisha uses some spicy language in this one, because he’s justifiably outraged. Other than that, though, no graphic images, I promise.
Parents need to teach children about consent and respect from an early age. Boys should know what a REAL yes looks like. And everyone should know that it’s okay to say no.
It’s never too soon to start teaching children and setting an example by treating others with respect and expecting those around you to do the same.
We as a society have GOT to stop ignoring this! Shame on us for letting it go on for so long! We like to think we’re not animals, so we need to stop acting like animals.
